Tonkatsu (Japanese Fried Pork) Class

Join Yoko from Osaka and learn how to make mouthwatering fried pork, alongside a refreshing cabbage and shredded carrot salad with wasabi dressing!

Tonkatsu (Japanese Fried Pork Cutlets) & Wasabi Dressing
Serves 2

  • 2 pieces of pork loin meat (1/2 inch thick)

  • Salt & pepper

  • 2-3 tablespoons flour

  • 1 egg

  • 1/2 cup panko Japanese style bread crumbs

  • 3 cups neutral-flavored frying oil (vegetable or canola oil)

  • 1 head cabbage

  • Optional: Tonkatsu sauce

Wasabi Dressing

  • Wasabi - 1 inch long piece, or tubed wasabi

  • 1/4 of an onion

  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice or vinegar

  • Optional: Black pepper

Carrot Salad
Serves 2 as a side

  • 2 raw carrots

  • Optional: Cream cheese

Equipment

Certain commonly used kitchen tools are not listed here such as cutlery, dishes, mixing bowls, pots, and pans. Any additional equipment is listed here.

  • Knife & cutting board

  • Vegetable peeler or cheese grater

  • 1 pot for frying

  • 1 meat tenderizer

  • 3 small trays or plates for coating chicken

  • Paper towel

General Steps

  1. Fry the pork.

  2. Prepare carrot salad.

  3. Make wasabi dressing.
